MAMBE: Live Medicine Music w. Gabriel Osorio & Yemanjo

On January 24th, join us at Awake Uvita for a “Mambe”: a celebration of life through authentic live medicine music and dance. 

It is with sadness that we inform you that due to an unsolvable visa issue, Fredy Velasquez will not be able to join us from Colombia this week.  However, due to a stroke of luck and synchronicity, our medicine music concert will still happen as planned on Wednesday with another special guest musician from Colombia who happens to live here in Costa Rica: Gabriel Osorio.

Gabriel is a masterful young musician who grew up in Narino province in Southwestern Colombia. He studied music formally at University and has also been trained as a medicine carrier by Taitas (grandfather shamans) of the Kofan and Siona lineages from a young age.  A composer, singer and multi instrumentalist, Gabriel is a master of the guitar, charango, violin, flutes and more.  He composes his own songs and also has an encyclopedic knowledge of medicine and folkloric music from his land.

Gabriel will join Yemanjo and other musicians for a full live acoustic set before Yemanjo takes the stage for an ecstatic DJ set with live accompaniment from Gabriel and his many instruments!

We thank you for your understanding about this change and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday....Yemanjo is a project of producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Ben Harris. Raised in the rich culture of California’s Bay Area, Harris’ work is influenced by the global music styles he has encountered through extensive world travels.

Join us for this intimate evening of medicine and folkloric music from all over South America with a true native master, followed by an ecstatic dance set with live instruments from Yemanjo!
